ST HELENS Town returned to Ruskin Drive for a penultimate game of the season against promotion hopefuls Stretford Paddock.

A minute's applause was held prior to kick off in honour of club stalwart David Watkins who sadly passed away recently and this was observed impeccably by the crowd of 111.

The first half saw little in the way of chances for either team with the pick of the bunch being a volleyed effort by Ryan Cook after he had cleverly lobbed the ball over a defender and a long range effort from Dale Whitehead.

St Helens Star:

The second half started in similar fashion in a game that at times seemed to have the feeling of a pre season friendly.

Town however were undone on 64 minutes when Michael Burke got in behind the Blues defence to chip home and put the visitors 1-0 up.

Within a minute Paddock were 2 0 up as Victor Imuvya's looping header made for a disappointing afternoon for the blues.

The home side would threaten late on and a Kenny Dixon header from a corner would be Town's best effort although the veteran would need to leave the field with a head injury as a result.

As he left the field the Town faithful gave him a thunderous round of applause to show appreciation for a man who has given his all for is hole town club over the past two challenging seasons.

Town return to action for the final game of the season against Maine road FC at Ruskin Drive on Saturday (11th May) with a 3 pm kick off.

There will be a collection on the day for The Deafness Resource Centre, please bring any change you can spare.
