ST HELENS Town returned home to Ruskin with a point to prove in front of a crowd of 148 for this must win game against Pilkington u23 - and so they did with a 3-0 win.

After two straight losses Manager Paul Piert changed his line up with the biggest changes seeing Liam Diggle moved to centre midfield and Matthew Rochford return in the centre of defence.

It took two minutes for it to have an impact when Rochford rose at the back post to head home Tom Jackson's corner for his first goal since he scored at The Totally Wicked Stadium against Wigan Town.

Then on eight minutes the ball was rolled to Liam Diggle and he rifled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box.

As the half wore on Pilks would begin to dominate possession and almost pulled one back through Dixon who struck the woodwork with an excellent free kick from close to 30 yards out.

In fact as the second half started Pilks were settling in to play the style of football that had beaten Town 4-0 earlier in the season.

A major turning point was on 55 minutes when an outstanding Kyle Rugg penalty save maintained Town's two goal advantage.

Within minutes, Town talisman Diggle would strike for a second time with another blockbuster from 30 yards out to make it 3-0 and it would finish that way.
