Billinge New Street’s was one of only three Cheshire Football League fixtures to beat the freezing weather on Saturday and it was good news as they beat Daten FC 3-1.

New Street welcomed back striker Martin Dearden and team captain Dylan Martin - both back from injury - to the Sutton Leisure 3G pitch and it was Dearden who had the first chance of the game in the 15th minute forcing Jack Trubshaw in the Daten goal to pull off a fine save.

Minutes later Daten's Jack Lowe saw his effort on goal go over the crossbar from the edge of the box.

However, in the 25th minute Billinge went in front after Connor Simpson broke down a Daten attack and found Jordon Hallwood whose first-time pass found Warren Gerrard.

The midfielder’s quick thinking saw Trubshaw off his line and from 35 yards out floated the ball over the stranded keeper into the net.

Both Gerrard and Dearden were causing the Daten defence all kinds of problems and in the 43rd minute Dearden broke down the left, beating the Daten right back Leon Fisher, before curling his shot into the top corner of the net to make it 2-0.

Bang on half-time Billinge should have been three up. Again, after great work by Dearden, on the left, his pass found Jimmy Howard whose first time shot hit the post with the keeper well-beaten.

After the break it was the visitors who came out with all guns blazing forcing Danny Still in the Storks goal to make two great point-blank saves from the excellent Brad Stokes and Adam Campbell.

Daten were squandering some great chances in front of goal, but the Billinge defence held out.

However, in the 80th minute Daten's pressure paid off when a great cross from the left found Stokes on the far post who headed home.

The visitors weren't finished and continued to apply the pressure, but in the 86th minute the SC Renewables man-of-the-match Hallwood broke down a Daten attack and his first-time pass found Dearden.

The striker, who remained a threat throughout the game, advanced down the middle and again noticing Trubshaw off his line calmly lofted the ball over the keeper and gave the Storks a well-deserved victory.

Billinge are without a fixture next weekend but return to League action on Saturday 16 December when they entertain Newton Athletic from Chester in a 2.30pm kick-off at the Sutton Leisure Centre.
