A VERY muddy Sefton Park Liverpool was the venue for the British Athletics Cross Country Challenge, including the European trials.

With the race also including, the Liverpool and District League, The Red Rose League and The Mid Lancashire League.

There was a huge turnout of athletes in all age groups, Sutton were missing a number of runners due to injury and illness, so the clubs turnout was not as large as usual.

There was a surprise in store for everyone as nine-times Olympic Champion Carl Lewis was in attendance to hand out the winners medals.

Under 13 athlete Bobby Birkett was once again the star of the show finishing an excellent 7th.
