IT was quite a weekend for the players of Liverpool St Helens with four teams in big finals.
Here is a round-up of all four teams - starting with the Moss Lane women's team who competed in the Papa Johns Cup Final at Twickenham.
It was a fine achievement for the team in their first year in operation, but they went down 24-12 Dings Crusaders.
LSH made the perfect start with a try from Luci Malcolm after a well-executed catch and drive, converted by Amy Taylor to give them an early lead.
Dings Crusaders, from Bristol, fought back strongly with three converted tries and LSH knew they were in a battle.
That they did, responding with a try from close range from Rachel Thomas before a well taken penalty from the Dings put the game out of reach.
A magnificent effort from the LSH Ladies to cap off a tremendous first season.
Everyone at LSH is so proud of them.
Their development has been excellent, so much so that the club plans to run two open age Women’s teams next year.
In the RFU U18 Girls Cup Final at Sixways Stadium, Worcester Liverpool St Helens came out on top 38-5 also against Dings Crusaders.
Losing finalists last year, the LSH girls were determined to go one better this year and they certainly did that.
Described by the coaches as “playing with great skills on and off the ball together with pace, power and knowledge” the result was never in doubt.
The tries came from Beri Salihi (2), Holly Brussels, Sydney Alderman Smith, Amber Harmon and Lucy Johnson. Beri Salihi slotted four conversions.
In the Lancashire RFU U15 Vase Final Liverpool St Helens U15s beat Southport 41-0 in a game much tighter than the scoreline suggests.
The win was just reward for a tremendous effort with some resilient defence and the ability to strike when they could.
In the early exchanges a Southport kick found full back Alfie Farren in space, stepping and outpacing the defence for the first try, followed by Hendro Hattingh charging over for the second, Charlie Penketh converting both to give LSH a 14-0 lead at half time.
Southport started the second half strong but the LSH defence again held firm before a Penketh penalty made it 17-0 which broke the game.
Further tries came from Hattingh, Reece Bettison, Tom Twist and ‘Hurricane’ Huw McCarthy scorching down the touchline. Penketh slotted two conversions to round up the win.
A whole team effort, everyone showed up, and the lads really enjoyed the celebrations after.
The Lancashire RFU U14 Cup Final saw Liverpool St Helens win a tight game 8-7 against Warrington.
This was a cracker of a cup final, a tense and extremely close encounter with two huge defensive displays from both teams.
The weather conditions were abysmal with torrential rain making it predominantly a forwards game bringing out supreme defensive displays from both sides.
Warrington didn’t deserve to lose but unfortunately there could only be one winner and an early penalty scored by Mason Stott proved to be the difference in the end.
Warrington opened the scoring in the first half followed by a conversion and led at half time 7-0 Stott’s penalty came early in the second half followed by a first class try scored by the ever present Jacob Davies, whose scoring record is unrivalled in the team.
This gave LSH an 8-7 lead and that’s how it finished after a very tense and exciting 60 mins.
18 votes couldn’t split the team man of the match, three lads that were exceptional on the day with 6 votes each were Liam Nixon, Jacob Woods and Harry Mikhail
