LIVERPOOL St Helens are looking forward to a massive weekend to put the seal on one of the most successful seasons in the club’s illustrious history.
On a Sensational Sunday, four of the club’s teams are competing in National and Regional Cup Finals, hundreds of miles apart.
The Women’s team, League Champions and winners of the Lancashire Cup last week against Eccles, take the field at Twickenham on Sunday morning in the RFU Women’s National Final.
At 1pm on the same day the LSH U18 Girls are at Sixways Stadium in Worcester in the RFU Girls National Final.
Remarkably both sides are playing teams from Dings Crusaders RUFC, Bristol.
Meanwhile two of the boy’s age group teams are staying a bit more local, competing in Lancashire Cup Finals at West Park. The U14’s take on Warrington at 11.30 with the U15’s playing Southport at 1.00.
The Women’s team captained by Alyx Bridge, is coached by Chris Hall, Martin Rabbett, Connor Glynn and Graham Canny, and is in their first full year of competitive rugby.
The Under 18 Girls, skippered by Grace Doodson and Grace Banks, is also coached by Chris Hall, together with Callum Lowe.
Chris Hall, Head of Women’s and Girls rugby at LSH, is proud of all the team’s achievements this year.
He said: “The players have worked hard all season. Everyone is really excited and cannot wait for this Sunday”.
Both boys’ teams have been long term projects at the club with the Under 14’s, managed and coached by Andy Miakhail together with Chris Platt and Michael Woods, coming through from the Under 7s.
Andy is very proud of the team, captained by James Patterson, and said “This is the first time these lads will have experienced a big final such as this and they thoroughly deserve it.”
The under 15s managed by Sue Martland and skippered by Charlie Penketh, are coached by Neil Penketh, Jacob Cummings and Harvey Hill and have been together for four years. Neil said, “The lads have shown significant improvement this year and deserve the opportunity to show what they can do on Sunday.”
A delighted LSH Club President, Stan Bagshaw, also referring to the success of the 1st XV, attributes the hugely successful season to the hard work and contributions of everyone in the club. “It’s all down to those in the club putting in a real shift to make things happen “he said. “ The players at all levels have responded and are now about to enjoy a big occasion”.
