HAVING won the Lancashire Trophy Cup tie against neighbours Leigh last weekend, the league programme brought last season's runaway League winners Didsbury Toc H to Red Rocks.

And in a hard fought and close contest, the visitors sole try on the stroke of half time proved to be the difference in an 8-3 defeat.

Lessons will no doubt be learned from Park's narrow defeat, in which winger Sean Allen was rightly awarded Man of the Match, with an 80 minute stint from veteran former Saints dual code international packman Maurie Fa'asavalu similarly impressive.

Fa'asavalu - now aged 42 - has been playing at Red Rocks since last year having returned to his adopted town having had spells at Harlequins and Oyonnax in rugby union after leaving Saints at the end of 2010.

Next week Park 1st xv travel to renew their acquaintance with Leigh (kick off 3pm), whilst the 2nd team travel to meet opponents Wigan (kick off 2.15)
