TODAY West Park RFC will provide it' first professional England Women's Sevens player.

Rachael Woosey, already a rising star in women's rugby circles, leaves for the tournament commencing on Thursday (Today) in Paris.

England Ladies, like the men's team, are placing two teams in the tournament.

It is anticipated that from these two squads a team for the World Series will be chosen to play in Dubai.

The rest of the squad will continue to play in Europe until further opportunities arise and they will form the basis for the World Series and Commonwealth games to come"

Meanwhile a Park team continuing to struggle with injuries to key players displayed a reasonable performance, despite losing 21-37 at home to Burnage.

The home side’s lack of ball retention, particularly in loose play, and an overall poor lineout display contributed significantly to their ultimate defeat.

Burnage posted their first try within minutes of the start of the game after turning over the ball from a Park attack, transferring the ball at pace across the backs to winger Bray to cross in the corner.

Stand off Rhys Evans failed with the conversion attempt but shortly afterwards slotted over a penalty kick to give the visitors an eight point lead, and was on hand to convert a further try which resulted from a catch and drive by the forwards from close range.

Though obviously rattled, Park continued to press when in possession, and got on the scoreboard with a fine try from centre Josh Ainsworth whose powerful run left several of the opposition in his wake, Lee Rosney adding the extras.

From the restart Park immediately coughed up the ball in the tackle and the visitors quickly despatched it across the back line for their winger to score wide out.

This quick reverse of fortunes did not appear to unduly unsettle the home side, and a scintillating 35 metre run by full back John Pape, beating several defenders on the way, resulted in a try which Lee Rosney converted, leaving only a six point difference between the teams at half time.

Despite considerable efforts by the home side , the second half undoubtedly belonged to the visitors, whose command of the forward tussle enabled them to add a further three tries, two of which resultant of drives from close to Park’s try line.

West Park stuck to their task manfully and eventually were rewarded with an excellent try from man of the match Josh Ainsworth who capitalised on a fine break by full back John Pape to score, Lee Rosney adding the conversion.

This is a highly competitive league, but the home side can take some positives from this display and hopefully carry them into next week’s fixture when they visit Wilmslow kick off 3pm
