LES Kay’s recent reminiscences about his childhood days in Parr and Fingerpost, and the time his dad, Tommy, ‘sent off’ German goalkeeping legend Bert Trautmann in a friendly football match on The Licker, prompted another follower of this nostalgia nook to contact us with a little yedscratter.
Wishing to be known only as Ex Fingerposter, our correspondent, who now lives in the Clock Face district of town, says: “I used to live near Les Kay and remember a lot of the characters and places recalled by him. Now I’ve got a little memory-jerking question for him.
“I wonder if he recalls the day he drove his butcher’s van down Merton Bank Road and all the cuts of meat kept falling off the hooks and into the sawdust inside the van.
And does he remember the name of his ‘second man’ inside who had to keep picking the meat up and dusting it off so the customers at the other end of the journey wouldn’t suspect what had happened along the way?”
- OVER to you, Les...
