ST HELENS' motorists will have eight road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And seven of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing holdups of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M62, from 9pm March 24 to 6am March 25, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 eastbound, junction 6 to junction 8 - carriageway closure for carriageway - reconstruction/renewal.

• A580, from 9pm March 18 to 6am March 25, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 North and southbound, junction 21A - 26 lane closures and carriageway closures due to improvement works.

• A580, from 9pm June 8 2023 to 6am May 1 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 Haydock Island footpath closures due to improvement works.

• M57, from 8pm February 19 to 6am June 8, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 both directions M62, junction 6 to M62, junction 7 - carriageway closure for carriageway - reconstruction/renewal.

And a further four closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M62, from 9pm March 25 to 5am March 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M62 eastbound, junction 8 to junction 9 - lane closure for barriers - permanent on behalf of National Highways.

• A580, from 9pm April 1 to 6am April 8, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 North and southbound, junction 21A - 26 lane closures and carriageway closures due to improvement works.

• M62, from 9pm April 6 to 5am April 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 westbound, J8 to J7 - carriageway closure for horticulture.

• A580, from 9pm April 8 to 6am April 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 North and southbound, junction 21A - 26 lane closures and carriageway closures due to improvement works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
