MORE than £6,000 has been raised for Whiston Hospital’s Playground SOS appeal, after a flying start from skydivers.

Last month, the Star joined forces with the hospital to launch a £20,000 appeal to raise funds to build a play area at the hospital for young patients and visitors.

The community and businesses have been rallying round and doing their part to donate, with the latest effort seeing 14 Whiston hospital staff members taking to the sky to raise funds.

Kate Horne, Vicky Prescott, Michael Dean, Melissa Brown, Samantha Tynan, Gemma Norris, Heather Killean, Emily Graham, Jessica Cahill, Siobhan Sorby, Kayla McCabe, Kate Bowler, Melissa Williams and Paul Hall managed to raise an incredible £3,052, which has given the playground appeal a real boost reaching an overall total of £6,400 in less than three weeks.

“It’s so amazing to see everyone pulling together to raise funds for our playground and for the benefit of younger patients and their families.

“Our skydive event was an unforgettable experience and I thank everyone who took part. We are so proud of our staff for proving the sky’s the limit when it comes to fundraising.”
