THE wraps are set to come off the new store that sports giant Nike is opening in St Helens.

The retailer is set to open its doors at the store between Marks and Spencers and Flannels on Ravenhead Retail Park.

As these pictures show, finishing touches are being put to the large shop, which is now stocked with kit and leisurewear.

The planned opening date is believed to be Thursday, October 27.

Nike is the latest brand confirmed as coming to the retail park, which, unlike the town centre, is still attracting big-name brands.

Starbucks Drive Thru opened on the former Carphone Warehouse store earlier this month.

Attracting Nike is regarded as a big boost for retail in St Helens, with the retail park’s good road links meaning it draws customers from across the North West.

With Flannels next door, the town now boasts two of the biggest names in leisurewear.

In a statement commenting on the sports giant's plans for St Helens, Councillor Kate Groucutt, cabinet member for economy, business & skills, told the Star in the summer: “Investment from these well-known brands is very welcome as it contributes to the local economy, helps to improve the vitality of the town and bring jobs for local residents.

“We know the retail landscape has changed drastically over the years, with retail parks and online shopping now a convenient choice for many as part of an overall shopping experience.

“But as a council with major regeneration plans for its town centres, we know how important the high street is to residents as well.

"It’s all about finding the right balance, and having a good choice of offers will help bring local shoppers and those from further afield into St Helens to spend their leisure time.”
