A NEW store for sports giant Nike is taking shape in St Helens.

The retailer is set to open its doors in the store between Marks and Spencers and Flannels on Ravenhead Retail Park.

As these pictures show, signage is now up at the front of the shop, with an opening date scheduled for October.

The planned opening date is listed online for October 27.

Nike is the latest brand confirmed as coming to the retail park, which, unlike the town centre, is still attracting big-name brands.

Last week a Starbucks Drive Thru opened on the former Carphone Warehouse store.

It is understood that Wren Kitchens will be taking over the former Arcadia building, which housed the likes of Dorothy Perkins and Burtons, which closed down during the pandemic.

Attracting Nike is regarded as a big boost for retail in St Helens, with the retail park’s good road links meaning it draws customers from across the North West.

Over the summer, the company advertised for people to work in the store.

In a statement commenting on the sports giant's plans for St Helens, Councillor Kate Groucutt, cabinet member for economy, business & skills, told the Star in the summer: “Investment from these well-known brands is very welcome as it contributes to the local economy, helps to improve the vitality of the town and bring jobs for local residents.

“We know the retail landscape has changed drastically over the years, with retail parks and online shopping now a convenient choice for many as part of an overall shopping experience.

“But as a council with major regeneration plans for its town centres, we know how important the high street is to residents as well.

"It’s all about finding the right balance, and having a good choice of offers will help bring local shoppers and those from further afield into St Helens to spend their leisure time.”
