A DAD who got back into running has shared his experience of joining a music-based running group.

Kevin Lloyd from Newton-le-Willows got into running prior to the pandemic, however, a two-year break meant that he had lost the rhythm of it.

He has recently joined a running group with an unconventional quality to it.

Kevin said: “I’ve been looking for motivation to get back into running once my children go back to school and I have a little more time.

“Before Covid happened, I got into running just to get out of the house. Even before Covid, I worked at the house, so it was a way of making myself do something.

“I initially ran with a local running club but since Covid, you kind of get into good habits and bad habits and the running was a really good habit, but once you get out of the habit of doing it it’s very difficult to get back.”

He has since joined Running Punks, which gives runners of all standards a platform to exercise whilst listening to new music to share with others.

Kevin, a freelance graphic designer, explained how he had wanted to get back into running and that trying something new was just what he needed.

The dad-of-two added: “I was looking for something to push me over the edge to get back into it and it seemed like a really nice way of doing it.

“I like to listen to music anyway when I’m running; I find it’s a way of switching your mind on something else.

“The idea was to challenge yourself with running but also listen to music and new stuff, stuff that you wouldn’t listen to and share that experience online.

“It appealed to me as I thought it was a good way of pushing yourself to do something different.

“The encouragement from people I don’t know has been incredible; I’ve been given that push now to do it, so it’s been really nice.”

The 48-year-old has recently completed his first session and is excited to continue with the group.
