A JUNIOR football club has won the congratulations of a Sky Sports News presenter after receiving a £3,000 boost which will help set up girls teams.

Bold Rangers JFC have been awarded the Grow the Game grant from the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity.

The money, which will provide a boost to grassroots football has paved the way for the club to increase the participation of girls into football as it looks to eventually set up girls-only teams for all age groups.

Grow the Game attempts to create a solid infrastructure of newly-trained coaches and grassroots teams that play in FA-affiliated leagues for the long-term so that participation increase are sustainable.

Bold Rangers JFC chairman Mark Fairbrother said: “This grant from the football foundation is fantastic news for the club and community.

"This will now enable us to bring in girls-only football teams which has been lacking in the area. The future is bright for Bold Rangers JFC.”

And Sky Sports News presenter and Football Foundation ambassador, Hayley McQueen, added: “Very well done to Bold Rangers JFC for working with the Football Foundation and Liverpool County FA to secure this Grow the Game grant.

"This investment, which is provided by the Premier League and The FA, has created an opportunity for more people to play football, which will not only keep them fit and healthy but also develop their life-skills.

“Grants like this one make a real difference to grassroots football. They help clubs meet the costs associated with starting a new team – like getting volunteer coaches qualified with FA coaching badges – and so help to drive up participation levels in the sport, especially amongst under-represented groups.”
