A PRIMARY school has been commended for putting its Christian ethos at the heart of daily life.

The District Church of England Primary School in Newton-le-Willows was judged as outstanding in its recent SIAMS Inspection, which measure the effect that the Christian culture has on the children who attend it.

"Christian values are deeply embedded in the lives of all our children and this in turn creates a loving, caring and inclusive environment which has a direct influence on the children’s well-being and progress," said karen Cliffe, school business manager.

"Links with the parish priest of St. John’s Church are extremely strong and children have a clear sense of belonging to the wider Christian community.

She added: "We are all extremely proud of this great achievement. Following on from this, our next step was to achieve RE Quality Mark Silver which was awarded to us on June 24.

"It’s great to hear such lovely things being said about both our school and our children who conducted themselves so well in their pupil interviews. We are all very District Proud and are looking forward to achieving R.E Quality Mark Gold next year."
