THERE will be a dazzling display of tricks on show as Canine Capers returns to Sherdley Park this weekend.

Including flaming hoops and a dog rescue, the entertainment begins at 12pm on Saturday (July 2).

The PDSA will be on hand to carry out free health check on dogs, while groomers will be providing a free nail clipping service.

Information on microchipping, dog welfare and training establishments will also be available.

And an added bonus this year will be a special appearance by the British Champion dry sled handler and his team of huskies - who will be there to show off their skills with a ‘rig.'

Visitors will be able to take part in competitions with prizes generously donated by Jolleys, the Range and Pedigree chum.

Stalls will be manned by charities including Guide Dogs for the Blind, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and many smaller re-homing charities and suppliers of hand-made leather goods.

The event will also see the launch of the new Tiks-Pac project as St Helens Council becomes the first local authority in the north of England to provide free bio-degradable poop scoop bags from specialist independent base stations.

It is envisaged that stations will soon be located in every park in the borough.

St Helens Council’s cabinet member for green, smart and sustainable borough, Cllr Seve Gomez-Aspron said: “This is a great event that gets bigger every year.

“Once again it will give residents access to all the help and information they need to be good dog owners and neighbours. We’re really grateful for the support shown by local businesses in providing the prizes for the competitions."
