STAFF and students at St Helens College's nursery are revelling in the success of an 'outstanding' Ofsted rating following an inspection at the end of March.

The inspectors' report highlights how the nursery achieved outstanding in all four areas of inspection.

The nursery, based at the town centre campus, provides childcare provision for students who attend courses at the college. The nursery welcomes up to 64 children, aged from birth up to five years, during term-time.

They also support children with disabilities and special educational needs as well as those who speak English as a second language.

Susan Hopper, Ofsted inspector, said: "The staff team is well qualified and highly experienced. They demonstrate a strong commitment to providing the highest standard of care and learning.

"All children consistently make high rates of progress in relation to their starting points. Children of all ages and abilities gain the confidence and skills they need for the next stage in their learning, including starting school."

Deputy principal Brian Dean said: "The college prides itself on the support that is made available to our students; this outstanding childcare provision enhances this package further. Nicola, our nursery manager, and her team have worked tirelessly to establish a strong, secure environment for our students' children to learn, develop and grow."
