FOUR choirs will perform at a concert in memory of teacher Megan Fyles, who died in September after a battle with cancer.

Funds raised by the Four Choirs Concert event, which will be held at St Bartholomew's Church in Rainhill, will be donated to Willowbrook Hospice, where Megan was cared for during her last month of her life.

Her husband Bernard Fyles, 67, of Four Acre Lane in Sutton Manor, said: "At one point Megan worked in 23 schools around St Helens and she also worked at St Anne's in Sutton, St Luke's in Knowsley Road and St Bartholomew's in Rainhill.

"She worked as a specialist teacher in the reading and behaviour services. She was well known in educational circles."

Megan, who was 67 when she died, had also been a keen singer for as long as Bernard could remember.

He said: "She grew up in North Wales and sang in a choir there before we met.

"She was a lovely, caring person and was very well liked."

Megan and Bernard have one daughter and a granddaughter.

Bernard decided to hold the fundraising concert after a conversation with a friend.

He said: "Meg spent the last weeks of her life at Willowbrook - they were excellent, very good to her. We were talking about it and a friend suggested we should do something to remember Megan and we decided a choir concert would be an ideal way to raise money for Willowbrook."

The four choirs that will perform on the evening are St Bart's Choir, the New Cross Singers, St Bart's Folk Group and St Bart's Youth Choir, most of which Megan had sung with.

Bernard said: "Each choir will perform for about half an hour. The music on offer will range from Abba to Mozart and all stops in between."

The concert takes place on Friday, February 26 at 7pm. Tickets, costing £8, will be available on the door or can be ordered by calling 817239.
