SMALL change from Yorkshire Building Society members has made a big difference to three charities which have benefitted from a £1,000 cash windfall.

The Alder Children's Charity received £500, St Helens based HoneyRose Foundation picked up £300 and The Legacy Rainbow House in Ormskirk was given £200 from the Yorkshire Building Society on Church Street through its Charity Choices campaign.

The campaign sees members of the society donate pennies from the interest they receive on their accounts once a year. People were then invited to vote where the money would be allocated.

Sonja Knapper manager at the St Helens branch said: "We had a brilliant response to the campaign from our members, local shoppers and residents but of course the real winners here are the charities all of which do a fantastic job of providing invaluable support in our local community.

"Because each and every vote helped secure pounds for the charities it felt right that the decision of splitting the money was put in the hands of our members and local people. I can't think everyone enough for coming in to our branch during the voting period to make their vote count. I'm sure the money will make a real difference."
