A MAN has been remanded into custody after being charged with a serious sexual assault against a 17-year-old girl.
Mark Owen McCauley, 25 from Central Court in the town centre, appeared before magistrates in St Helens today accused of attacking the teenager at around 8.40am on the morning of Wednesday, July 15.
He entered no plea at a hearing at St Helens Magistrates' Court.
Prosecutor Mike Cain said that the girl had been walking along a footpath near to Canal Street when it is alleged she was assaulted.
McCauley was remanded in custody until Monday, August 17 when he is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court.
