LYNN Duffy has come a long way since she started the HoneyRose Foundation in the back bedroom of her home.

The 61-year-old has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours list for her services to charity through the work of the foundation.

Lynn, who is a grandmother of five, said: "I have been getting loads of texts from people. Everybody is really chuffed and people have been treating me like royalty," she joked. "Hopefully it will do the charity more good and raise the profile. It may even get us more support."

The charity which is based on Ormskirk Street in the town centre helps to fulfil the dreams of people with terminal illnesses. Lynn, who lives in Sutton, said that since the charity was formed 11-years-ago they have helped between 6,500 and 7,000 people.

HoneyRose has endured a difficult few months following a break in at their headquarters in March which cost them approximately £10,000. She said: "We are going from strength to strength but always need support. That's why fundraising events are important to us although a lot of charities are in the same position."

Lynn said she was excited about the prospect of a trip to Buckingham Palace. "I'm not exactly sure when it will be. It could be at the end around October and November simply because of the amount of honours that have been handed out. I think they do it in stages.

"But it will be a good excuse for a night out."
