ONE of golf's biggest names will get into the swing at Haydock Park Golf Club just before this year's Open Championship.

Former Open champion and cult figure John Daly will visit the Newton-le-Willows golf club for a sportsman's lunch event.

The afternoon will also see John take in a few holes on the course and take a question and answer session.

The popular American will play at St Andrew's for this year's British Open just days after his appearance at Haydock Park.

"A professional of John's profile doesn't do these things normally so it's a bit unique," says Haydock club director Paul Toft.

"I know John through a friend of mine who has a company in Warrington and some months ago he did an exhibition there.

"Everyone's going to walk round with him and he'll play three of our hardest holes. We'll have a bit of lunch and he'll be doing a question and answer session."

Some tables are still available for the event which takes place on Friday, July 10. Priced at £65 per person, it will include a three-course meal and a signed photo of John. The dress code will be smart casual, no denim allowed.

The event will last from 12.30pm to 3.30pm.
