A WOMAN will plunge from 15,000 feet in memory of her dad this Father’s Day.

Jenny Lewis, 24, was a child when her dad Ray Ryan died from motor neurone disease in 1994 aged 46.

Ray was a well-known figure in the town and was a former chairman of Pilkington Recs and worked at Triplex.

Jenny has decided to do the sky dive in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

Jenny, from Billinge, said: “Motor neurone disease and the work of the MNDA received some much-needed awareness last year thanks to the ice bucket challenge because MND is the same as ALS. And there has been more this year with the release of The Theory of Everything movie.

“I don't want that momentum to stop there so that is why I will be doing it to raise much needed funds and awareness for this great charity.

“My mum told me that my dad used to say: ‘Where there is life there is hope’, but people with MND are not getting that unless we can support this charity and raise funds and awareness.

“June is also MND awareness month and on June 21 it is global MND awareness day,” added Jenny, a primary school teacher.

Sister Sarah, 25 who will be going to Suffolk to see Jenny take the dive, added:”It’s going to be emotional for her as it is on father’s day in memory of dad.

“She’s never done anything like this before,” added Sarah, who is involved with the South Lancashire branch of the MNDA.

“People have shied away from it but now more people are talking about it.”
