Harold fell ill just days before he was due to light the beacon at St Helens VE Day memorial ceremony
A FUNERAL will be held for former serviceman and champion boxer Harold Beesley who has died at the age of 87.
Harold, who leaves four children, 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, grew up in Prescot and served in Germany and Italy during World War Two.
He fell ill just days before he was due to light the beacon at St Helens VE Day memorial ceremony.
A service will be held at St Ann's Church in View Road, Rainhill, at 2pm before they go to St Helens Crematorium, where Royal British Legion members will parade in front of and behind the hearse with 10 standards.
