THREE runners from Sutton Athletics Club who took on an epic challenge in Yorkshire are hoping to inspire more people to put their trainers on.

Mark Liptrott, Greg Carns and Gary Oldham - all senior runners - completed the Haworth Hobble, a 32-mile ultrathon with 4,400 feet of climbing.

Gary said: "Mark Liptrott lead home with an awesome four hours and 54 minutes, second in the over 50s category. Greg came in at five hours 21 minutes, a new personal best by over 20 minutes. Gary came in after a gruelling six hours and 17 minutes of running but it was his first attempt."

He added: "Don't think you could run an ultrathon? Well think again. Pull on those trainers and join the club. You could start small with the St Helens park run - three miles every Saturday in Victoria Park."

Runners meet at The Mansion House, in Victoria Park at 9am on Saturdays.

Anyone who would like to take part in the free park run should register first at parkrun.org.uk/sthelens
