JUST five months since it was formed, a charity which supports people who have been made redundant has enjoyed positive feedback from people it has helped during this time.

The Joseph Carney Memorial Trust (JCMT) was set up to offer "a safety net" for people, predominantly men over 50, who have lost their jobs.

Diane Carney, a 47-year-old nurse from Dentons Green created the trust in memory of her husband who died in September 2013 following a battle with depression.

She said that previously there were no proper support mechanisms in place to help people cope with their situation following redundancies.

Diane explained: "Myself and Debra Thomas (JCMT) have spoken to clients we have been helping. They completed an evaluation form and the consensus has been that they have found the service very helpful.

"One client who is a gardener has been helped in securing some voluntary work at an allotment project which has been set up in Sutton Heath. This will hopefully help him improve his confidence to get back into paid employment when he feels ready."

The trust will be holding a fundraising event including a quiz night, raffle, disco and hot pot supper at Bishop Road Police Club on Saturday, March 28 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 per person.
