POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a bank robbery this morning.

Officers were called to Lloyds TSB on Ellamsbridge Road in Sutton following reports that three men had escaped with a quantity of cash.

None of the men were seen with any weapons and no one was injured in the incident.

Police are still at the scene and a search of the area is being carried out. A cordon is in place around the bank while crime scene investigators examine the building. House to house enquiries are also being carried out.

The three men are described as slim, with their faces covered and wearing dark clothing. They spoke with Liverpool accents.

Detective Inspector Paul Unsworth, St Helens CID, said: "While, thankfully, none of the staff were injured, they have been left extremely shaken by this incident.

“It happened at a busy time of day when people are on their way into work. I'm appealing to anyone who may have seen something or know anything about this incident to please contact us.

“I'm particularly interested to hear from anyone who thinks they may have seen these three men on Ellamsbridge Road or Peckershill Road around this time or anything suspicious in the area this morning to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
