THE NORTH West Museum of Road Transport has added a piece of recent history to its exhibits.
A battery bus, which was taken out of service last year, is on show. As one of six vehicles operated in St Helens by Selwyns on behalf of Merseytravel, the vehicle became a familiar sight around town as it travelled to commercial areas such as Ravenhead retail park on a free bus service.
The buses were unique to the town with only Birkenhead operating similar but smaller vehicles in the UK while others ran in Aarhus in Denmark and a few other cities in Europe.
The other five vehicles have been scrapped.
"Acquired by the museum No 158 is now on display in the museum as a reminder of piece of St Helens transport history for visitors to see," said museum chairman Geoff Sandford.
