A FORMER Coronation Street actress whose character battled dementia was at Langtree Park to give a talk on the illness, amid predictions that cases will soar in over the next decade.

More than 2,000 people in the borough are believed to suffer from the memory disorder, with the figure expected to be up to around 3,000 by 2025.

Helena Partnerships teamed up with St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals Trust to put on the ‘Living Well’ day to help people learn about the condition and how to prevent falls.

Judy Holt portrayed Coronation Street character Lesley Kershaw from 2011 to 2012, who suffered from dementia and on the day she gave a talk.

Mayor Cllr Geoff Pearl attended and a range of experts were also on hand to offer advice.

The St Helens Falls Strategy was also launched at the event which ran from 10am to 3.30pm.
