A 12-YEAR-old girl discovered her family’s pet cat had been shot in the head, say police.

She found the two-year-old cat named Rosie after it was wounded in a park at Whiston.

The cat was let out as normal on the morning on Wednesday, December 3 but arrived back home in the afternoon bleeding from a number of injuries to her head.

The girl immediately told her mother after finding the wounded animal, which was taken to a vet.

The vet confirmed the cat had been shot twice in the head with an air rifle. She is on the road to recovery but has lost the sight in one of her eyes.

Police believe Rosie was shot while she was in Stadt Moers Park, Whiston.

Dedicated Neighbourhood Sergeant Paul Carroll said: “It’s hard to believe that anyone could be so callous as to shoot a cat in the head with an air rifle.

“We know that the community will be rightly outraged by this incident and I want to reassure them that we are doing everything we can to arrest the person or people responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the park recently, including any people using air weapons to get in touch with us.

“I would also urge anyone who may have heard people talking about this incident or thinks they know who those responsible are to contact us as soon as possible.”
