A NATIONAL campaign to boost shopping in town centres is seeking the backing of St Helens firms.

Small Business Saturday on December 6 celebrates small businesses and the value they add to the character of communities.

St Helens Council and St Helens Chamber have joined forces to support the drive and will be joining force with twitter group #sthelenshour in a social media campaign.

Council Leader Barrie Grunewald said: “I would urge people to show their support and shop with small businesses on, what I hope, will be the busiest shopping day of the year.

“If you are a family business, local shop, online business, wholesaler or small manufacturer, help to make it a great day for everyone.”

Businesses can take part by suggesting Christmas gift ideas, giving special offers or discounts, providing handy hints to create a special Christmas or putting on special events or activities to bring in more customers.

Chief executive of St Helens Chamber, Kath Boullen said: “It is really good to have a special day to focus on fantastic small businesses in St Helens and remind people how important it is to support them.”
