A REVAMPED community centre is in the running to win £1,000 in a national competition and is seeking votes from the local community.

In July, Trees Community Centre, on Alder Street, Newton-le-Willows received a generous paint donation from the Dulux Let's Colour project and transformed its look by painting colourful garden critters, such as ladybirds and caterpillars, around its outdoor play area.

Dulux chose Trees Community Centre's artwork to feature in the competition because it brought colour to people's lives – but it's up to people in Newton-le-Willows to help it scoop the top prize to further improve the premises.

Local people who want to support the community centre should log on to the Dulux UK Facebook page and hit 'Vote' before Friday, October 31.

Project leader, Aleksandra Golubowicz, who originally applied for the paint donation online, said: "We couldn't believe it when we heard Dulux had selected our new-look play area for the competition.

"The donated paint helped us to transform our site, but there's still so much we want to do to improve the facilities for children who visit our centre. That's why we really want everyone to get online and vote for us!"

The top projects in each of three different categories are going head-to-head on Facebook, where members of the public can vote for their favourite.
