ST HELENS College is celebrating after a national report in student performance put them in the top 4 per cent in the country.

The report comes shortly after the National Student Survey revealed the college provided the best under-graduate teaching in the North West and the most satisfied students in Merseyside.

And Dr Jette Burford, principal of the college was delighted by the news.

She said: “I would like to thank all the staff who have contributed to the success of our students and to allow us to continue to perform to an excellent and outstanding standard.

“The college prides itself on providing a first-class education and support network to enable students to progress into employment or onto higher education.”

The Advanced Level Performance System (ALPS) report outlines academic distance travelled by students between 16 and 18 years old studying on Level 3 vocational programmes and it also showed that the college’s excellent performance had been maintained, with 58 per cent of all students reaching or exceeding their targets.

The ALPS measures more than 1,450 schools and colleges across the country, allowing education providers the chance to quickly identify strengths and weaknesses and it highlighted the college’s ‘excellent’ teaching and learning experience.

But Dr Burford doesn’t want to stop there adding: “We hope to continue to build on this year’s success.”
