A STORYTELLER and a poet will be performing before an intimate audience at Chester Lane Library to celebrate National Poetry Day.

The free event, which takes place on Thursday, October 2, will see storyteller Tamar Williams take to the stage, followed by performance poet Martin Daws.

Tamar is a storyteller, theatre director and folk singer who competed against other young storytellers from across England and Wales to win the title of Young Storyteller of the Year in 2013.

Martin, who blends music and innovative lyricism, has been appointed Young People's Laureate for Wales in recognition of his work. A double Farrago Slam Champ and runner-up in both the Glastonbury Festival Slam and the John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry, Martin also received a five-star review on his debut at the Edinburgh Festival 2008 and is the author of 'Skin Tight the Sidewalk’.

The event is part of the council’s Hubs Programme.

St Helens Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Housing, Planning and Community Safety Cllr Richard McCauley said: “This is a really exciting event that should appeal to young people, poets, poetry enthusiasts and storytellers alike."

The event is free but tickets must be booked in advance online at culturalhubs.eventbrite.co.uk or by calling 01744 677087.
