A NEW Gamblers Anonymous Group has been formed in the town.

Its meetings are held every Thursday evening from 7.15pm to 9.15pm at the Deafness Resource Centre, in Dentons Green Lane.

“Anyone with problems caused by gambling are welcome to come along and see if we can help them abstain from gambling,” said the organiser.

“We also have a separate meeting of Gam-anon, running at the same time, for the spouses, parents, other relatives and friends of a person who is gambling.

“It may be they are being affected mentally, or in some cases physically or financially.”

The number of compulsive gamblers in St Helens is believed to have grown with a rising following an increase in the number of betting shops and the development of online gambling.
