THOUSANDS of clubbers will pack into Sherdley Park for a dance music festival on Saturday – and both police and council officers insist an action plan is in place to reduce any disruption.

Organisers are hoping to attract up to 3,000 people from across the country to the event, named Reminisce Club Classics, which will feature DJs from iconic venues such as the Hacienda and Cream.

The festival runs from 2pm until 11pm. Two huge big tops will be erected in the park. However, some residents in nearby Marshalls Cross Road fear the event will be noisy and cause parking chaos.

One, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “It’s going to be loud music and rowdy gangs of clubbers. It’s worrying.”

However, police say measures will be in place to minimise disruption. Inspector Elaine Collins said: “I would like to reassure both the local community and festival-goers that we will have officers on duty in Sherdley Park throughout the event.

“I hope everyone will have a great time and enjoy themselves safely and responsibly. “We won’t tolerate anyone who breaks the law, or whose behaviour spoils the event for others, and we will deal with any crime or anti-social behaviour robustly.”

A spokesperson for St Helens Council said: “The event area will be closed off with barriers and there will be around 50 security staff on duty."

“Noise management measures will direct sound away from noise sensitive areas on Marshalls Cross Road.”

The event finishes at 11pm and many ticket holders will go straight to an after-party in Liverpool. There is designated parking at Lea Green Station and Sherdley Business Park as well as drop-off points for coaches. There will be pick-up points for cars and taxis at Sherdley Park Driving Range.
